Ambient Strips
Architectural lighting simplified. Bend, cut, and stick light anywhere.
While smart bulbs provide omnidirectional light, LED ambient strips are the precision scalpel of interior lighting design. They allow you to draw lines of light, highlight architectural features, and create floating effects that fundamentally alter how a space is perceived.
The Art of Bias Lighting
One of the most practical applications of LED strips is behind computer monitors and televisions. Known as bias lighting, creating a soft glow behind a screen reduces the stark contrast between the bright display and the dark room. This drastically reduces eye strain during long gaming sessions or movie marathons, all while enriching the perceived contrast and black levels of the screen.
Under-Cabinet and Toe-Kick Integration
In the kitchen, high-density LED strips provide both task and mood lighting. Installed under upper cabinets, they banish shadows from countertops, making food preparation safer and more pleasant. When installed along the "toe-kick" baseboards, they provide a gentle, glowing nightlight that gives cabinets a futuristic, floating appearance.
| Strip Type | LED Density | Best Application |
|---|---|---|
| Standard RGB | 30 LEDs/m | Basic backlighting, short runs |
| RGBIC / Addressable | 60 LEDs/m | Flowing gradients, music sync setups |
| COB (Chip on Board) | 480+ LEDs/m | Seamless, dot-free continuous lines of light |
Installation Best Practices
To achieve a high-end look with ambient strips, diffusion is critical. Bare LED nodes reflecting off glossy floors or tiles can look inexpensive and harsh. Utilizing aluminum extrusion channels fitted with frosted covers diffuses the harsh points of light into a smooth, continuous neon-like glow. Additionally, always ensure corners are handled with proper right-angle connectors rather than folding the delicate copper circuitry.
